More people are opening an assistant and asking for a recommendation rather than scrolling a results page, so this is the first place we looked. Each search was typed exactly as a customer would type it, in a fresh chat, with no other context. Sierra is named first on three of the four searches, and is the top pick on the fourth. In every answer the assistant links straight to the Christmas light installation page on the website, which means the page is being read and trusted as the source.

What is earning it

The answers consistently point at the same two things: that Sierra is genuinely Whistler based, and that the service is described end to end, sourcing the lights, installing them, then coming back to take them down and store them. One answer put it as "particularly appealing if you want the whole thing handled rather than simply paying someone to hang lights you already own." The review history is quoted back as well, by number.

The assistants also read the season. Unprompted, one closed with "since it is only August, this is actually a good time to start getting a quote rather than waiting for the November rush."

2Where it stands on Google

The same searches on Google, run logged out with the location pinned so the positions are what an ordinary local sees rather than a personalised view. The page holds the first page on the installation searches, sixth in Whistler and ninth in Squamish. The last column is the part worth reading: the two shortest searches return an entirely different kind of first page.

Why the two shortest searches behave differently

"Christmas lights whistler" and "holiday lights whistler" return Whistler tourism content: the Village displays, Vallea Lumina, Whistler Blackcomb, the Fairmont, Tourism Whistler. Google reads those two searches as someone planning a trip and wanting to know where to go and see lights, not someone wanting their own house done.

The clearest evidence is that no installer at all appears on those first pages, including the company that sits first on every installation search. It is a different question rather than a contested one, which is why the installation wording is where the effort belongs on Google.

Worth noting: ChatGPT reads those exact two searches the other way, treating them as a request for an installer and naming Sierra first. The shorter searches are already being won in the place they can be won.

3What will move it

These are ordered by what each one is likely to be worth. The first two are the difference between being described well and being chosen.

1

Put a price anchor on the page

The assistants quote whatever numbers they can find. One competitor has a published starting point, a $600 minimum plus tax, and it gets read out inside the answer. Sierra is described in terms of service rather than cost, because there is no figure to quote. Adding a starting price, or a short "what drives the cost" section covering roofline length, tree count and storey height, gives both the assistants and the customer the one thing they most want at this stage.

2

Give the page the depth the season deserves

The page runs around 900 words. The installers ranking above it on Google run closer to 1,400 and cover more ground. The natural additions are already true of the work: what a quote depends on, rooflines against trees against pathways, commercial and strata properties, how the LEDs handle snow load and sub-zero nights, and the takedown and storage that comes after. Taking the four questions at the bottom of the page up to eight, with cost among them, is the same job.

3

Say "holiday lighting" as well as "Christmas lights"

Roughly half the searches use the word holiday rather than Christmas, and the page currently carries "Christmas" in its title and description. Working holiday lighting into the title, the description and one heading covers both without changing what the page is about. It is the clearest difference between the searches Sierra ranks for and the ones it does not.

4

Name Squamish and Pemberton properly

Sierra installs across all three communities, and the page currently mentions Squamish and Pemberton twice each in passing. The strongest competitor names all three in its page title. A short paragraph on each, describing what the work looks like there, is what turns a Whistler page into a Sea to Sky one.

5

Connect the holiday lights article to the service

There is already a good article on professional Christmas light installation on the blog. Linking it to the service page, and the service page back to it, passes its authority where it counts and gives anyone reading the article a direct route to booking.

6

Have it all live within two weeks

Searches for this service are close to zero in August and climb hard through October and November. Google needs a few weeks to recrawl and settle new content, so getting these changes live in the next fortnight means we start seeing the results by the middle of September, well ahead of the point where people are actually booking. This is the window where the effort pays for itself.

Google positions recorded 11 August 2026 in a clean logged-out browser with personalisation off and the location pinned to Whistler and Squamish, with organic results read separately from ads and map results. AI answers recorded the same day on ChatGPT, one fresh chat per search, plain service searches with no added context. Search positions and AI answers both move, so these are a reading of one day rather than a fixed standing. Page and competitor details read from the live pages.
