Last season across Meta, Google and the landing pages, what we recommend adding and changing for the season now opening, and the campaigns as they stand. With a bonus look at the new website.
Our plan for the coming season, built on last season's results across Meta and Google.
The account, and what we run on it.
Both platforms delivered well last season. Together they produced 1,200,212 impressions and 74,125 clicks, and since each campaign was given its own landing page last autumn, those pages have recorded 4,329 enquiries. With a full season of results now in, three opportunities stand out.
Every Meta audience produced enquiries. The adventure travel audiences and the US did so most cheaply, so they can carry more of the budget.
Google reaches people while they research, and many enquire later rather than on the first visit. A few changes would let Google learn from bookings, and YouTube would bring the trip reels to Google's audience.
Black Friday and the winter campaign have both produced good results in past seasons, and both fall inside this one.
How last season performed, what the results tell us, and what we recommend adding and changing this season.
The booking window for winter and spring travel opens in the autumn and closes at the end of March, so that is where the budget goes: 77% of the year's budget sits in those seven months, peaking from November to February. From April the campaigns continue at a lower level so the audiences stay warm, then step back up in September.
1 October 2025 to 31 March 2026. 1,200,212 impressions and 74,125 clicks across both platforms, for $25,621.13 of advertising.

Since autumn 2025 every campaign has sent people to its own landing page, and each page counts the visitors who fill in the enquiry form. Because every page is measured the same way, this is the clearest like-for-like view of the campaigns.
The two platforms play different roles, and both are working. Meta shows people a trip they were not yet looking for, and those who click are already keen, so more of them enquire straight away. Google reaches people while they are actively researching. Expedia Group's research into how travellers plan found they view around 141 pages of travel content over the 45 days before booking, rising to 277 for travellers in the US. Many Google visitors therefore come back and enquire later, through a search for the company by name or another route, which these page figures do not count.
That is also why the Canada Branded campaign converts so well: many of those searchers found Island Expeditions somewhere else first. Section 10 sets out how to let Google see that fuller picture.
Every audience produced enquiries. Because each one ran with the same budget last season, the cost per enquiry compares directly and shows where extra budget will go furthest. Highlighted rows are within 25% of the best result.

People interested in adventure travel, eco-tourism and frequent international trips enquired at $1.68 each, against $2.45 for the outdoor brand audiences such as Patagonia and Arc'teryx. Both work; the adventure travel audiences simply go further.
Comparing like with like, US audiences came in at $1.78 per enquiry and Canadian audiences at $2.28. The best single result of the season was the US adventure travel audience at $1.30.
Audiences shown ads in every placement averaged $2.07 per enquiry, against $3.49 where ads ran in Stories only. That matches Meta's own testing, which found letting it choose placements lowers the cost per result by 11.7% on average.
Among the audiences of people who already know Island Expeditions, past website visitors combined with the customer list produced enquiries most cheaply.
Last season's spend and clicks for each Google campaign, alongside the share of visits that became an enquiry on that campaign's own landing page.

The branded and Canadian campaigns are the strongest performers on Google. Canada Branded turns 12.2% of visits into enquiries, close to the Meta pages, and Canada Targeted 7.6%. Both branded campaigns also send many of their clicks straight to the main website, where these pages cannot count the enquiries, so their full results are higher still.
US Targeted reaches the widest range of searches, many at the early research stage, and it has the most room to grow. Section 10 sets out how to focus it on searches that are closer to booking.
By design, the winter campaign runs only through the coldest months. It reaches people in the coldest cities, Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto in Canada and Denver and New York in the US, with a simple message: swap the snow for Belize. It ran from late January into the spring.
The escape-the-cold angle has now worked in two separate seasons. Switching it back on as the first cold weather arrives in its target cities gives it the full winter this time, and Ricardo's taglines, such as "Swap Snow for Saltwater" and "Winter's Better When It's Belize", are ready to freshen the creative.
Alongside the evergreen campaigns, each of these has evidence behind it.
These ran in 2023 and 2024 and produced good results: across those pages, 5,198 visits led to 399 enquiries, and the 2023 Black Friday page converted at 14.2%, on a par with the strongest Meta campaigns. Late November sits right in the busiest part of the season, so a short campaign with a genuine offer is well worth bringing back this year.
Pages built around a single trip and offer have also done well: Paradise Islands converted at 8.3% and Rainforest and Reef Explorer at 7.0%. Two or three of these through the season, built around the trips with the most availability, give the evergreen campaigns something new to say.
YouTube has come up in conversation before, and Leif's October list of ideas also suggested it for reaching people planning an adventure trip to Central America. This season is a good time to start. Ricardo's short vertical reels are exactly the format YouTube Shorts runs, and they would reach people while they watch travel content rather than only when they search.
It would run through Google's Demand Gen campaigns, which is now how Google runs YouTube advertising aimed at enquiries. It can be limited to YouTube alone (Shorts, the video feed and between videos), with the option of adding Google's Discover feed and Gmail using the trip photos. Google reports that campaigns using both video and images this way produce around 20% more conversions for the same cost than video alone.
The past-client list Leif shared in January is already in the account, matched to more than 3,000 people. Meta can use it to find new people who closely resemble past guests. Past website visitors and the customer list were the strongest audiences to return to last season, so the people most like them are a natural next audience to test alongside the adventure travel interests.
The same escape-the-cold message, run on YouTube in Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Denver and New York as the cold arrives, using the winter reels. It reaches the same cities on a second platform with creative that already exists.
A small test mirroring the strongest Google campaign. Bing's audience leans towards older and more affluent searchers, a close fit for these trips, and clicks usually cost less than on Google. It adds to Google rather than replacing it.
OpenAI has started showing sponsored placements beneath relevant ChatGPT answers, such as someone asking about Belize adventure trips. Being among the first in the category, once it opens to Canadian advertisers, is usually when placements are cheapest.
Refinements to campaigns that are already working, each based on last season's results or on the platforms' own guidance.
They produced enquiries 31% more cheaply than the outdoor brand audiences on the same budget, so moving more of the prospecting budget their way should produce more enquiries for the same spend.
The US produced cheaper enquiries on every matched audience. Canada stays in, with the Canadian Google campaigns continuing to perform strongly.
Rather than separate Stories-only audiences, include Stories within the main audiences and let Meta decide per person. Last season's results and Meta's own testing point the same way.
Ricardo suggested these, and they suit the trips well: a single ad with several cards, each showing a different part of the trip, from kayaking to snorkelling to the basecamp, finishing on the trip itself. A single photo shows one moment; a carousel shows the whole experience.
Fresh footage and photos in place before November give Meta time to find the strongest combinations while budgets are still building.
Extend the branded campaigns to the whole of Canada and the US. Anyone searching for Island Expeditions by name is already interested, wherever they live, and these are the strongest Google campaigns.
Google's enhanced conversions for leads lets a booking be matched back to the ad that started it. Google then optimises towards people likely to book, not just to enquire, and it credits Google for the travellers who research first and book later.
With planning typically stretching over a month and a half, show ads to past visitors when they search again over the following weeks and months, not only in the days after their first visit.
Lead with trip and activity searches such as sea kayaking in Belize, Glover's Reef or snorkelling trips, and point each group of ads at a landing page about that trip. Both help turn more of its wide reach into enquiries.
Both platforms stay fully funded through the season. As booking data comes in (section 11), budget can follow whichever produces more bookings rather than more enquiries.
A few things only Island Expeditions can help with, each of which would sharpen the plan.
Even a rough view, by campaign or by platform, is the most valuable single input for this plan, and it is what change 7 needs to work.
The new website does not yet carry the Meta pixel or the Google tags. The campaign landing pages still measure every enquiry, but adding them to the main site keeps the website-visitor audiences behind the strongest remarketing campaigns growing, and gives Google Ads the analytics data three of its campaigns use to set their bids. It needs someone with access to the website, and we can supply the codes.
Ricardo raised this earlier in the year, and the new website makes it a good moment to bring them in line with its look. They are the last step before every enquiry, so any improvement there lifts every campaign at once.
For the creative refresh and carousels, anything recent from this year's trips, especially short vertical video.
Every campaign, audience, ad and landing page currently set up, for reference. Click any ad tile to watch or view the real ad.
Four campaigns that run all year. Two find new people, two come back to people who already know the brand. All four optimise for the same thing, a completed enquiry on the landing page.
How locations are set. The adventure travel audiences run across the whole of the US and Canada. The outdoor brand audiences and the remarketing audiences focus on the core states and provinces where those audiences have performed best, so each audience reaches the places it works hardest.
Reaches people who have never touched the brand but whose interests and travel behaviour say they are the right traveller. The widest part of the funnel and the biggest spend last season.

The creative is built as a library rather than as fixed ads. Each ad pairs one video or image with one of three text sets, and Meta serves whichever combination works best for the person seeing it, in the right shape for wherever it appears.

Three layers. The two Targeted campaigns chase trip searches, broken into ad groups so the ad text matches the search. High intent keywords concentrates on the searches closest to a booking. The two Branded campaigns hold the top of the page when someone searches for Island Expeditions by name. Landing Page Traffic is a Performance Max campaign placing one set of assets across all of Google's inventory.

Each campaign points at its own page, which is what makes a conversion rate per campaign possible rather than one number for the whole account.
Pages built for past promotions, still holding their results. These are the evidence behind section 9.

Month by month, following the same shape as last year: building through the autumn, peaking across November to February while the booking window is open, then stepping back once the season closes at the end of March. $45,500 across the twelve months, $35,000 of it inside the season. The split between the platforms is covered in section 10.

The website is managed separately, so this sits outside the campaign plan. While preparing the report we ran the new site through the same review we run for all our clients, and there is useful information in it, so it is included here in case it helps whoever looks after the site.
The new site is a genuine step forward, in how it looks and in several of the technical areas that affect how it is found. It has also resolved the three biggest issues from the review of the previous site in June. Moving a site of this size between platforms nearly always leaves a few things behind, and the sections that follow set those out, most important first. Nearly all of them are settings rather than anything that needs rewriting.
This is the most significant item. The new site holds two copies of each trip. The copy reached through the menu is complete and looks excellent. The second copy, at a newer address, displays no content at all, and it is the version listed for Google to index. Both were checked in a live browser.
| What shows no content | Found | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Trip pages at their newer addresses | 28 of 28 | All in the sitemap, so Google is asked to index 28 blank pages that duplicate the real ones |
| Top-level section pages | 6 of 6 | About Us, Our Trips, Incredible Belize, Book Your Trip, Connect With Us. The menu links past them, but they are indexed and appear in page breadcrumbs |
| Supporting pages (galleries, packing lists, trip notes) | 12 of 12 sampled | There are 263 of these in the sitemap. Many hold genuinely useful pre-booking information |
| Blog posts | 12 of 25 sampled | These display a title, date and share bar, then the footer. They affect anyone arriving from a search result |
The trip content has not been lost: it is all present on the original trip pages, and every one of the 28 trips exists. The newer pages appear to be using a page template that does not display the content, so this is a setting for whoever manages the website to correct rather than anything to rewrite. The same check applies to the section and supporting pages. For the blog posts, the first step is confirming whether their text is still stored in the website, in which case it simply needs displaying again, or whether it needs restoring from the previous site.
Once corrected, one version of each trip should redirect to the other, so Google sees a single complete page.
The title of a page is the blue headline Google shows in its results. On the new site, every page title ends with the same sentence: "Island Expeditions operates active vacation adventure travel and tours in Belize Central America since 1987". The homepage's title in Google currently reads:
Home - Island Expeditions operates active vacation adventure travel and tours in Belize Central America since 1987
This looks like one field: the website's title setting holds the full sentence instead of "Island Expeditions". Changing it corrects every page title and the company name at once.
When a site moves, every old address that has earned links or rankings should forward to its new equivalent, and links inside pages should point to the new addresses. Most of this has been handled well.
| Old addresses tested | Redirect correctly | Show an error | Redirect to a general page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blog posts | 60 of 60 | 0 | 0 |
| Trip pages | 38 of 49 | 11 | 0 |
| Activity pages (kayaking, snorkelling and others) | 2 of 17 | 13 | 2 |
Measured in a controlled test on a mid-range phone connection and on a desktop.
| Page | Device | Main image loads | Page responds | Page weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Homepage | Desktop | 7.0s | 5.5s blocked | 14.6MB |
| Homepage | Phone | Did not finish loading within 60 seconds | 14.6MB | |
| Trip page | Phone | 9.4s | 3.1s blocked | 1.3MB |
Google's targets are 2.5 seconds for the main image and a fraction of a second to respond.
Structured data is hidden code that tells Google and AI tools what a page is and what it sells. It is what produces prices, ratings and trip details in search results, and it is how AI assistants understand a business.
This review was carried out from the public website and the two ad accounts. The following were not available and would add to it.
| Not available | What it would add |
|---|---|
| The website's admin | Confirmation of why the blank pages are blank, and whether the blog text that is not displaying is still stored |
| Google Search Console | Which pages Google has indexed since the move, and the searches that bring people in |
| Google Analytics | Not currently receiving data from the new site (section 11) |
| Booking records | Which enquiries became bookings, to settle the budget split (section 11) |
| Real visitor speed data | Section 24 uses controlled measurements rather than real visitors' devices |
We are happy to help with any of this, whether that is working through the changes directly or sharing the detail with whoever manages the website.
